Worst. Podcast. Ever.
You guys are a joy as always to hang out with, but holy fuck, you didn’t even start talking about the movie until the last 15 minutes. Boo-hiss, boys. Boo-hiss.
Some items:
Ms. Marvel is not a Skrull. A skrull was actively trying to replace Ms. Marvel until Ms. Marvel kicked her ass back to the mothership. Her boyfriend, however, is a Kree.
Is the last panel of the Mighty Avengers a reveal? That’s the question I’m left with? Maybe she hasn’t been replaced yet. I’m just saying between New Avengers (which had no Avengers in it) and Mighty Avengers (which had no Avengers in it) you get two very different takes on the same character. Perhaps a red herring?
Also mark me down as a little cheesed off by just how important all these crossovers are to Secret Invasion as well.
Pepper’s first name is not Pepper. It is Virginia. And Paltrow did a remarkably solid job. “Take out the trash” indeed.
I totally called the after the credits reveal based on Adam’s thought process. “Wasn’t XYZ supposed to happen in this movie? Ohhhh, that’s what everyone’s talking about then.”
In other news, Agent Colson was the tits.
Fing Fang Foom as played by, Falcor. Nice.

Hey guys.
Excellent Podcast!
There’s just a few things I have to get off my chest.
Dark Knight looks awesome Brian. Like ridiculously awesome. Finally, an accurate representation of the Joker. It’s going to be worth the price of admission for that character alone. Harvey Dent looks awesome. It looks it’s going to have a nice bit of counter play between Harvey and Bruce. I always love when Bruce has to try to keep his identity hidden from someone he works with intimately. But mostly what I’m looking forward to is the Joker and Batman finally having their day (or night) in the Sun (or street lamps). That movie looks like it’s going to make me the happiest man alive.
BTW Adam the XXXombies issue was off the fucking hook.
Adam, I 100% agree with you that Iron Man is the best Comic book movie ever. It’s a shame to say that. But I think what made the movie so good was the Citizen Kane-esque Video Montage in the beginning that just made you very personal acquainted with Tony Stark. I absolutely despise the character of Tony Stark in the comics and I still loved this movie more than any of the others.
Also, we need a return of the cursing up a storm. It’s just not hanging out with your boys if they’re trying their best to “stuff” instead of shit.
Thanks for the shows guys. Much love.
Matt, you make a good point, “It’s just not hanging out with your boys if they’re trying their best to “stuff” instead of shit.” I hope we can have a healthy balance. Being that this was a FCBD release we were being a little extra careful.
I never thought of it as a CK-esque montage, but now that you mention it that makes sense. It was a great way to get us into his life without burning too much time doing so.
Marty, I know. I know. I cut an hour from this show. Can you imagine? And without Tre? I’d been spending so much time holding back talking about the movie for the show, and then when the time came to talk about it I just burned out the clutch on my brain. Thanks for keeping us updated on Ms Marvel. Virginia, huh? Add that to the list of things I’ve learned doing this podcast. I’ll use that to my advantage next time I run into her.
I really liked the movie.
Dang Bra! How ya gonna talk so much shit on Ms. Marvel…dats my book bitches.
Yeah so I wrote on one of these previously that there is a Skrull Ms. Marvel and a regular Ms. Marvel running around at the same time. And as of the last one I have (I think #25) they meet at the end of the issue.
- Kevin P. Johnson
Oh who puts out XXX Zombies I gotta get that shit….gotta get some Dallar Bin street cred after being punked for being a Ms. Marvel fan.
- Kevin
I spelled Dollar wrong….what a fukin’ retard
spelled fuckin’ wrong too I give up….Ms. Marvel rules!
Its, I believe, CRAWL SPACE via Image, or just Image. I’m not totally sure how all that works.
It was a fun podcast as usual but I was disappointed that the movie coverage itself was only about 15-20 minutes. I hope you don’t mind some suggestions but the podcast would be better served if it was rearranged in an inverted pyramid style (used in writing newspaper stories). Most important up front and then progressively less important so the listener can stop when they want.
My biggest disappointment in the Iron Man movie was his admitting he was Iron Man right at the end. I felt it was totally out of character. He should have denied being Iron Man and kept it as his corporate symbol. I have one question that I and my friend could not figure out, if Pepper removed the magnet from his chest what is now keeping the shrapnel away from his chest? What she put in was a power supply.
Power supplies create magnetic fields..?
But then people would stop listening..?
Really, to me the most important part of the show is the current event stuff. Granted we went a little long this time, but Devin and Brian were in crappy moods so I was glad to let everyone just have fun or who knows what we woulda got.
There is a good chance I would have not liked that Stark admission in the end, but I think the setup and delivery were well executed. Anyway, they did leave it open where the unpredictable Tony Stark can pass that off as a joke.
Yeah, the Secret ID reveal bothered me if anything did. But if the first thing that bothers me happens in the literal last second of the film, they’re still doing okay. They definitely played it for the gag, and in that way it worked, however, I’d like to point out Iron Man broke the Geneva Convention (as-noted) among other International Airspace, No-Fly, and DMZ laws. Now is not the time to be cavalier.
Joel: The first thing was an electromagnet, the other two were both Stark’s little energy source (one more Jerry-rigged than the other) that has electromagnetic properties. Hence why it became his best solution in the fight against Iron Monger (EMP). I know she pulled an actual magnet out of him, but that was the jerry-rigged one, hence parts showing and what-not. The new one presumably had that part inside.
Speak of things I dug about the movie, since, y’know you guys didn’t get into it (each of you flick yourselves in the nuts once for me, thanks): the gravitationally irrational shrapnel is actually part of the Starktech design. Shrapnel generally works its way OUT of the body, but the “walking dead” missile-thingie doo-dicker is meant to keep trying to kill you if the first attempt failed.
That’s hot.
I miss Trey
That’s it! We did a good job! I had fun! F$%K you guys and F$%K Tre!
$=U

Censorship is such a silly thing.
I can feel the love…and it itches and burns…
Yeah… what’s with the censorship? Do you guys even have anyone under the age of 18 listening? If it’s the idea of no offending anyone who’s delicate sensibilities are hurt by what they might consider foul language, tell those prudes to lick my salty, hairy taint.
The movie… I just can’t say enough good things about. The closest things to complaints that I could come up with were that I sort of wished that in the photos of Tony’s dad in the beginning they had used Tom Selleck. That would have made my brain explode with geek-joy. And Robert Downey Jr. was maybe too good. It sort of sets the bar really, really high for whoever’s in the next big super-hero movie.
The show… It was good… really good. I like it when you guys get to talk about something that you all enjoyed. I too did miss Tre, but not to the extent that I’m gonna piss and moan about like SOME people.
Ummm……..did I miss something? What happened to Tre?
Tre had the plague and couldn’t make it. He was too busy trying not to die.
Well, we were careful of this show because of the post FCBD crowd. We didn’t want freak them out right away. A lot of it also comes down to many listeners have said they wish to listen at work and don’t want to be the guy in the office who has sexist profanities coming out of their cubicle. We love you all. I may have gone a little overboard on this one.
this show sucked. i know you guys are having fun fuckin around, but you do realize you post this for other people to listen to also, right?
“iron man movie show”.
(52 minutes later)
“so lets talk about iron man for ten minutes.”
as far as the rest of the show:
all i heard from you guys during civil war was how pissed you were that you bought all this extra stuff that you didnt need to read, and now the big complaint is that they actually put important stuff in the crossover titles. make up your mind! you would think that comic fans would realize and enjoy a crossover that was worth your money after all the pointless countdown and civil war tie-ins. if your complaint is that you would have been pissed if you DIDNT buy the issue, then whats the problem? everybody wins!
ps - tony stumblin in drunk yelling “imposter!” at the skrull tony = highlight of the evening. good form, devon.
also, i for one was extreely happy to see a superhero, in a movie, just say “fuck it, it’s ME!” it totally fit the character downey & crew created for the screen, and if a super-rich, well-loved, drunk weapons developer with a suit of badass armor and friends in the military AND shield needs a secret identity, then no one is safe anywhere. it was refreshing to me.
Brendan, if you were listening it was I who said I’m not happy that there is going to be important stuff in all these crossover issues and the stuff in Civil Was wasn’t like that. Brian then said something about Civil War also being exactly like that with whole sections of the story in another book. I then said, hey maybe you are right, but I still don’t like it. Damn it, I don’t want to buy Mr. Marvel. You know I buy enough damn books already. Why can’t I buy Ms Marvel if I am interested in that character and not need to buy it to keep up with another story line I want to enjoy. Sinestro Corps War - 3 maybe 4 kinds of tie-ins. That I can get behind, not a big deal. 8 or 10 tie-ins, it just frustrates me.
I KNOW WE DIDN’T TALK ABOUT THE MOVIE UNTIL THE END!!! But we do talk a lot about books and the weeks releases. Its not like we talked about bowling or college football the whole time. We are a comics podcast. We talk about comics. We happen to through a topic in there as well. From some people I get you guys need to talk more about the releases and what is going on in the books and from others I get you need to talk more about the topic, well screw you all. We are a mixed bag. WE ARE a group of guys hanging out and talking about comics. You are welcome to come along for the ride. “You need more structure / You need more just having fun.” Ahg!
Being that my conversational style is much like what the panel showed on this episode, I’m pretty much cool with it as it is.
I think what makes the show interesting is that there is no real “agenda” to speak of…if you’re talking about Preacher then you just gather up and do it. No notes, nothing…you just sit around and talk about it like friends.
That’s cool to me because sometimes when shows get too structured they lose all the “pop” and excitement that made then interesting to listen to in the first place.
For the record, I was just flickin’ y’all in the nuts about the show. I still enjoyed it.
Besides, what were you really going to say about the movie that you didn’t already say? “It was awesome.” for 50 minutes? If the movie left any room for complaint you might get a show out of it. As it stands, gushing about how super-rad something is would’ve probably been boring to listen to. You boys did fine.
As the draw of the show (for most of us it seems) is it’s ike dicking around with you guys once a week, I think it did that.
I’m trying to convince myself I can make it to HeroesCon this year, it would be nice to get around the old stomping grounds, doubly so if Rachelle is going to be there. But since I have a wedding the next weekend, camping two weekends after that and I’m going to GenCon (panelist, bitches, eat it and weep!) I probably can’t swing that much travel this year.

[...] So by this point I assume we are all wondering where I am going with my review of this movie…and I have no idea. I will say that it is not a bad film in anyway and I will not be shocked to see it do well at the box office. I also will not be surprised to hear both ticket and comic buyers declare that the like it more than Marvel’s last attempt with big green. I don’t think I feel that way though, I just think it is a different Hulk movie not really a better or worse one. In the grand scheme of things it gets thumbs up from me and I think it was worth my money and 2 hours. But Marvel has produced much better flicks, especially and most recently Iron Man. [...]
