Y the Last Man
By Dollar Bin • Aug 12th, 2008 • Category: ShowsThis week we took a break from Tre’s couch and took the show on the road to one of our favorite comic shops, Richard’s Comics and Collectables in Greenville, SC. Since Richard’s is an award winning comic shop; we decided to spend most of our time talking about the Eisner award winning series Y: The Last Man from Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra. All of that magic plus a bit about what we read last week and the usual foolishness on this edition of the Dollar Bin.

Great show guys, really liked the Beth part.
Dang ya’ll ruined it for me.

I wish I could add more to what ya’ll said but you pretty much covered every base. Excellent podcast gentlemen. Who needs Tre?
beth blew my mind
I flipped through Cross when I saw it on the rack. I’m awful with zombie movies. I’m not much better with zombie comics.
Also, Adam had better have the goods with him at Heroes this Sunday.
I always have the goods with me!
How spoiler-heavy is this ep? I’ve onlt read the first Y trade and don’t want to get the whole thing ruined for me.
Should I skip this episode?
Help me!!
We have very light spoilers in the beginning and then we throw out a warning and kick into some very very heavy spoilers. In the beginning be talk about our overall feelings on it and that might spoil your feelings before you can develop your own opinions.
couldn’t listen to the whole thing because I STILL have not finished reading the series… the part I did get to listen to was hilarious as usual though. I look forward to listening to the rest once I finish up the books.
Brian! Ya let me down. I so hated Final Crisis 3 and I’m sick of seeing Morrison fanboys praising it all over the internet. I need you to criticize it man! It’s therapy.
But not a bad show overall, just needed a bit more energy.
Nate, I’ve noticed the energy thing as well. Its a little harder to have a full on discussion in an open shop like that (especially when watching one’s language is an issue). I like to think that our shows there balance the lack luster energy with being little more coherent and informative (also a lot easier to edit).
We figured if we put the Y show off until a few weeks after The release of the Last trade everyone would have had a chance to read it, but Man you guys are slackers.
Bah Adam! I don’t listen to this show for coherency. (who does?) Ok, so it was good info, but still, some of us listen to you guys as a substitute for having real friends that share the same comic interests. (uh…. so i’ve heard
not enough energy but informative. great, im the James Lipton of podcast guests.
I listened to the whole thing despite having not read Y The Last Man yet. I probably never will. I’m already in enough debt because of my comic-buying habits.
If I knew what the ending would have been I never would have started the series. I haven’t been this disappointed since the ending of the Dark Tower……….or for that matter just about ANY Stephen King book. Vy, you should avoid this book and buy Fables or Transmetropolitan instead.
Vy, I will let you borrow it. Don’t let Joel discourage you too much. A) The ending of Dark Tower was sweet ass and B) I just finished the Stand and that ending perfectly made sense. C) I would recommend Fables too, but admittedly we have no idea how that one will ever end, so I wouldn’t take the chance on it. D) Love you Joel.
Oh, oh! The ending to the Dark Tower was indeed awesome. I’m looking forward to the next run of Dark Tower comics.
Adam: Awesome! Give me a call when you’re in town!
A) I have told my friends that Y is kind of like a roller coaster that starts off great with some awesome loops and dips but the last 3rd is just flat track. B) The ending to The Stand was pretty good I agree (as was Firestarter) C) Back at ya Adam.
Sorry Nate, all of the mindless crossovers are wearing me down. But have no fear they aren’t getting any better so there will certainly be more bitching on the way!
And we were kind of quiet during the features we recorded that weekend. Maybe we were saving all of our energy for the awesomeness of Adam’s birthday bash.
Hells Yeah!
This is yet another show where I’ve had to spend the last week resisting going to the store and buying hundreds of dollars worth of trades. Great listening.
Thanks Evan. I think that’s one of best/nicest comments we’ve gotten.
