Fluke 2009 Anthology Assembly

Last weekend Adam got together with the guys over at Wide Awake Press to asist in the assembly of the 2009 Fluke Anthology.  Of course he had to bring a camera with him.  The following is a very slimmed down presentation of that event.  Speaking of events, don’t forget Fluke is this Saturday, April 4th down at Tasty World in Athens, GA! Often the Dollar Bin finds itself recording really cool in-store events. Sometimes we cover a major media release with many opinions. Not as often, but occasionally we formulate well structured discussions about a particular book, creator or series. This week’s show however, while unlike any of those just mentioned, is like many of our other efforts. We sit down on some body’s couch and just let the conversation flow. Highlights this time include the latest issue of Enders Game, the big single issue crossover attempt in Invincibible #60 and possibly so much more on this edition of the Dollar Bin.

Heroes Discussion Group - The Invincible Iron Man

Last Monday night, one of our favorite comic shops (and sponsors of Heroes Con) Heroes Aren’t Hard to Find, invited the Dollar Bin to take part in one of their awesome discussion groups. The topic of the talk on this night would be the first trade of Invincible Iron Man and we were even lucky enough to be joined via telephone by series writer (and former Heroes employee) Matt Fraction. The turnout was great and with the strong leadership of Andy Mansell on our side so was the discussion. DollarBin’s journal, March 13th…still talking about Watchmen movie. Staff is unaware of meaning of term “wrap it up”. Seem to think you needed to record a 5 hour review for 3 hour movie. More voicemails to get to, many forum posts to comment on, hard to make Adam and Brian shut up. On Friday night a movie was released in theatres. Somebody knows if we will finish our review for it in this episode. It’s down there and somebody will press play to find out.

DollarBin’s journal, March 11th… saw Watchmen last week, need to do a show about it. Had dinner with J Chris Campbell, talked about film soundtrack and mocked him for not having read the book. Asked our people to comment on message board and voicemail. Brian and Adam think they are smart, tricking people to give them content and other voices for the show. Nobody’s fooled, everyone knows they couldn’t get others to hangout with them on a Saturday. Visitor’s to our site will look at this page and shout, “So what did you all think of the movie?” and I’ll whisper, “press play.”
