The Dollar Bin is bringing along a few of our friends this year. We will be sharing our table with Kris Black who will be selling his Visionaries trading cards series. Also, Joey Weiser will be joining us selling his comics. I’m sure you have heard us sing his praises on Joey's SpongeBob Comics, Mermin, and Monster Isle. Shawn Daughhetee will be there selling concept art from her story for the Sweaty Palms Anthology. Be sure to stop by Artist Alley table 1025 to say “hi” and pick up some books, zines, t-shirts, buttons, stickers, cards, or art!

We are looking forward to hanging out with friends, digging through comics and toys, and meeting the guests and creators. We are always happy to stop by Heroes Aren’t Hard to Find, Purgatory Comics, Ssalefish Comics, Richard’s Comics and Collectables, and tons of other awesome vendors at the show. We can’t wait to talk to Mark Waid, Mike Zeck, Denny O’Neil, and Mike Grell. Too many friends of the Dollar Bin are going to be there to mention, so check out the Guest List page for complete details!

There are also events and panels going on all weekend. Be sure to check out the Cosplay Contest, Kids Coloring Contest, and photo ops with celebs. On Saturday night at the Hilton stop by the Drink and Draw for awesome art for two awesome causes. Proceeds made at the Drink and Draw will go to Team Cul de Sac for Parkinson’s Research and the Hero Initiative to help support comic creators.

Dollar Bin Will Be At SC Comicon April 2 and 3

We will be at SC Comicon selling our wares and promoting our podcast at table 1024! We will also be recording panels, moderating, and helping out where needed. Join us at the TD Convention Center in the lovely city of Greenville, SC April 2 and 3 for a rocking good time!

Here are the Top 10 things that we are most excited about at SC Comicon!

Helen Slater

1 - Helen Slater - Adam is a huge Supergirl fan so he is super excited to get to meet actress Helen Slater. When he was going through her film career he got more and more excited. She has been on Supernatural, Smallville, Greek, Boston Public, Caroline in the City, and Batman:The Animated Series. In other words, she has been in a lot of Adam's favorite shows!

2 - Sanford Greene - We here at the Dollar Bin have been thoroughly enjoying Power Man and Iron Fist. Sweet Christmas this book is good! Adam is especially looking forward to talking to artist Sanford Greene about his work on the book and maybe even picking up some art by him.

3 - Budd Root - Shawn is super stoked to see artist Budd Root because she is finally going to commission him to do a Cavewoman piece for her. A piece by him has been on her "To Get" list for a long time now.

4 - Panels - Members and friends of the Dollar Bin will be moderating a number of panels throughout the weekend! There will be a number of spotlight panels with the likes of Greg Capullo and George Perez. Also there will be discussion panels on topics ranging from cosplay to painting. Stay tuned for more information about the Schedule of Events at SC Comicon!

Book by Joey Weiser

5 - Joey Weiser - Adam and Shawn were talking the other day about what a prolific cartoonist Joey Weiser is. He has a creator-owned series, Mermin, through Oni Press. He did a strip, Monster Isle, for years. He has several graphic novels under his belt. He is an occasional colorist. On top of all of that he works on the super popular Spongebob Comics that are published internationally. Weiser is definitely on the top of Adam and Shawn's list of favorite cartoonists!

6 - IR Harris - IR Harris is a writer and artist based in Asheville. She is such a nice and energetic person! Every interaction that the Dollar Bin has had with her has been incredibly positive. This convention we intend to remedy the fact that we have yet to read her work.

7 - Joe Everson - Joe Everson is an incredibley talented painter who happens to be local to the Greenville area. His studio is in Taylors Mill. If you are in the neighborhood you should take advantage of First Fridays there and check out the space and the other artists there. Recently at a Greenville Swamp Rabbits hockey game Everson sang the national anthem while live painting. It was amazing!

8 - Wide Awake Press - A few of the members of Wide Awake Press will be present at SC Comicon. We love hanging out with these guys! J Chris Campbell, Duane Ballenger, and Wes Brooks will all be near the Dollar Bin table so if you come see us they will be very close by. Campbell is the leader and herder of Wide Awake Press. He has been creating some stellar new work so we can't wait to stop by and see what he has in store. Ballenger is one of the funniest guys in comics. His off-the-wall style is perfectly encapsulated in his mini-comics. Check out his work pronto! Brooks is the pretty face behind Undead Speed Equipment. But don't let that face fool you, he is the dark and brooding edgy side to Wide Awake. And I'm sure he will love us describing him as such! His design sense is crazy awesome! Be sure to pick up his new sketchbook and tell him that the Dollar Bin sent you!

9 - Digging - One of Shawn's favorite things to do at conventions is dig for obscure comics and oddball toys. She often does this with various members of Wide Awake Press and even her husband if they can manage to align their schedules. Looking at the vendor list it looks like there will be some quality digging to be had!

10 - Drink and Draw - Last year's Drink and Draw was a lot of fun and this year's is shaping up to be even better. It will be at the Hilton this year. We are looking forward to picking up some great pieces and contributing to Team Cul de Sac and Hero Initiative in the process.

Announcement: Comics Elimination Challenge 2013 - Predict It!

No show posting this week, but we have the Dollar Bin Comics Madness Elimination Challenge 2013 up and ready for your predictions:  Comics Madness Elimination 2013

The challenge is to predict how we, on the Dollar Bin podcast will vote the winners of the match-ups.  I went ahead and did 128.  The deadline to get your predictions in is April  16 and we’ll start posting each round’s results over the next few weeks starting on April 17.  Highest score wins a Dollar Bin Prize package.  I’ll announce the contents of the prize package shortly.

Feel free to listen to last year’s challenge shows to get some ideas, or you could ask last year’s winner, Matthew Guy

Its not to bad of a sign up.  You don’t get any junk from the site.  It took me a while just to find it again from last year.

Announcement: Weekly Check-In

Hey guys, it Adam.  I wanted to check in and let you know we haven’t forgotten about you.  I’ve been super busy at work (stupid day jobs).  We’re coming to the end of the HeroesCon panel recordings.  I have 2 lined up for you and I think there are about 3 more after that.  Next will be Manga Influenced Comics moderated by none other than myself.  It’s a super fun cast.

A few things I’ve recently read on the webs that I’m sure you all already know about is the announcement that the very wonderful Katheryn Immomen will be taking over writing on Journey into Mystery (I love that book), SPX is getting cooler and closer every day (can’t wait), and the sad passing of Joe Kubert (really do yourself a favor and read Tor if you haven’t.  Its some of the best story telling I’ve ever seen).

If you are in the east of the Missippi south of the Mason Dixon area be sure to stop by Spartanburg and check out Ashley Holt’s gallery showing, Four Hankie Triumph.

Contest: Remember that Spider-Man book?

Hey, do you guys remember that Spider-Man book that came out that caused Adam to stop reading Spider-Man?  First person to comment what that book was titled gets a free “I Read Comics” shirt sent to them, because that is what we need to post this HeroesCon Wrap-up show.

Here’s a Comission from Henry Eudy.  He did this for me a while back and I (Adam) picked it up at HeroesCon.  I was in downtown Greenville and I saw a occupy Greenville gathering of about 6 people and they were gone when we got out of dinner.  For some reason I started thinking about banana peels and that led to “Occupy Banana Peel… Its not that easy!”  I called Henry and he brought the craziness from my head to life.

Announcement: Post HeroesCon Show Posting Delayed

We have a great post HeroesCon show lined up for you this week, but it is going to take a little longer to get together.  We will be posting it tomorrow.  We all had a great time at HeroesCon and have way to much to say about it to fit into an hour.  Are you guys okay with a 2 hour show?  Until then, did you check out Shannon Smith’s pre HeroesCon post?  He wasn’t able to make it and he was super bummed.  I hear Henry Eudy posted a post show wrap-up there too.  You can check it all out here at fileunderother.blogspot.com.  Here is an commision by Jerrett Williams to bask in the glory of while you wait:

Announcement: Show Posting Delayed

Hey, how do you like the new website?  With the new setup I feel more comfortable posting things like this.  I’m going to bed without finishing the edit on this weeks show.  I’ll have it up later tomorrow.  That’s pretty cool about Stan Lee at HeroesCon, huh?  You guys pick up any good stuff from Free Comic Book Day?  That’s what we’ll be talking about, Free Comic Book Day.  Sorry for the delay… not that any of you listen on post day anyway.  What day do you usually listen?  Here’s a mock-up that Kris did once:

Announcement: Stan Lee to Appear at HeroesCon 2012

It was just announced today that Stan Lee will be at HeroesCon 2012.  Lee has hit a few east coast shows over the past few years, but this will be the first time since 1984 he’ll be a guest at HeroesCon.  What better way to celebrate the enormity of the 30th HeroesCon than to shake hands with Stan Lee, the most well known name in comics?  I know the Dollar Bin will be there. Congratulations Shelton, and Happy Anniversary.
